Journal of Brief, Strategic and Systemic Therapies
The JBSST is designed to further the Association's mission of disseminating scholarly information about constructivist therapies.
The Journal is a refereed academic forum where clinicians, researchers, and theoreticians can publish articles related to the practice of brief, strategic, and brief-strategic therapies.
Theory Articles related to theory are welcomed to advance the epistemology and basic understanding of constructivism. Theoretical articles may discuss methods of understanding specific pathologies, therapeutic processes, or underlying constructs of therapies that are of interest to the Association.
Techniques and Clinical Practice The Journal is especially interested in articles related to the techniques and applications of constructivist theory to clinical praxis. Authors may submit articles related to case examples, specific strategies, or clinical techniques related to the treatment of specific pathologies or types of patients.
Research Information about the efficiency and effectiveness of brief therapy, strategic therapy, and brief-strategic therapy is essential to supporting the mission of the Association. Research articles can include experimental and quasi-experimental research studies, case studies, or discussions about the array of research methodologies available to researchers.

Manuscripts should be submitted in electronic format (MS Word preferred, text file or Adobe Acrobat acceptable).
Evaluation of Manuscripts
Manuscripts are accepted for publication with the understanding that they are the original work of the author(s), have not been previously published, and are not under simultaneous consideration for publication with another publisher. Upon publication Copyrights are owned solely by the Association.

The Journal of Brief, Strategic & Systemic Therapies is published to support the goals of the publishing organization, the American Association of Brief and Strategic Therapists. The Association exists to advance the understanding, research, clinical practice, and dissemination of constructivist therapies. To further these goals the Journalof Brief, Strategic & Systemic Therapies is published semi-annually.

The preferred medium for submission is MS Word submitted electronically via email in rich text format (.rtf). Preliminary articles for consideration can be submitted electronically or in hardcopy; however, final submission for accepted articles must be emailed in an electronic word processing format to
Articles considered for submission must be the original work of the author(s) and not have been previously published nor should they be under simultaneous consideration for publication elsewhere. The editor reserves the sole right to reject any manuscript and to return it to the author for revision based on format, style, or editing.
Articles should be submitted in a format conducive to blind review. The author’s name and identifying information should only be listed in a detachable cover page.
Once an article is accepted for publication, corrections, additions, or substantive revisions (other than for grammar, spelling errors, and dates) are prohibited.
Copyright on materials published in the Journal are held by the American Association of Brief and Strategic Therapists (AABST). Reprints or permission to reproduce copyrighted material must be obtained in advance from the AABST.
Format for Articles
Articles should conform to APA style and be written in formal language (past tense and third person with gender neutral language). Pages should be formatted as 8.5"x11" with 1" margins on all sides. Text should be double-spaced and in 12 point Arial or Times New Roman font. Total length of articles, including references, tables, and figures should not exceed 30 pages. Articles should be presented in the following order:
Title Page should include the title of the article, each author’s name, highest relevant degree & credential, institutional affiliation, and contact information.
Abstract should not exceed 120 words and must be included on a separate page. All words in the abstract must be italicized.
Text that uses standard APA sections and headings should be used.
References should be in APA format and follow a hanging indent margin. References should only contain items that were cited in the text.
Figures should be kept to a minimum. Each figure must be on a separate page and numbered in the order that they are referred to in the text. The text should indicate the desired placement of figures.
